Privacy Policy

Your story is yours. This policy explains what Dashlight collects, why, who can see it, and how you stay in control.

What we collect

Account details: name, email, and sign-in information (including Google or Apple sign-in).

Your content: biography chapters, milestones, yearly check-ins, photos, voice recordings, preparedness plans, and wishes you enter.

Memorial content: anything curators publish, plus guest book signatures, stories, photos, and voice notes visitors submit.

Purchases: package, gift details, and shipping address for plaques and books. Card details are handled by our payment processor, Stripe — we never see or store your full card number.

Basic usage: anonymous plaque scan counts and technical logs used to keep the service working.

Private by default

Your biography, voice recordings, photos, and plans are private to your account. Nothing becomes public unless you, or a Trusted Curator you appointed, chooses to publish it to a memorial.

Visitor submissions stay hidden until the family approves them.

How we use it

To run Dashlight for you: saving and syncing your work, building memorials, printing books and plaques, sending emails you expect (sign-in, receipts, gifts, curator invitations, new memory alerts), and preventing abuse. We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising.

Writing help (AI)

When you tap a writing-help button, the text you choose is sent to an AI service to tidy or organize it. It is instructed never to invent facts, and results are drafts you review. Dashlight never creates synthetic voices, avatars, or imitations of any person. Your content is not used to train public AI models by us.

Who we share with

Only the service providers needed to run Dashlight: secure cloud hosting and storage, Stripe for payments, our email delivery provider, our AI writing provider, and manufacturing partners who receive the memorial link and shipping address for physical orders. We may disclose information if required by law.

Trusted Curators and Memorial Mode

Curators you invite cannot see your private content until Memorial Mode is activated. If activation happens by mistake while you are living, you can reverse it with "I'm still here."

Your browser

We use your browser's storage to keep you signed in and as a temporary working copy of your work. It is cleared when you sign out. The free one-memory preview is kept only in your browser until you purchase. We do not use advertising cookies.

Keeping, exporting, and deleting

We keep your content while your account and any memorial exist, since memorials are meant to be permanent. You may request a copy of your data or deletion of your account at any time by emailing support@mydashlight.com. Some purchase records are kept as required for tax and accounting.

Children

Dashlight accounts are for adults 18 and older. Families may include photos of minors in their own stories; see our Content Policy for removal requests.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Email support@mydashlight.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Changes

If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date above and notify account holders by email.
